Muslim mayor makes ‘his’ NJ city a sanctuary for illegals by his own executive order

The Syrian-born, Muslim mayor of the city of Prospect Park, NJ has declared it a sanctuary for illegal immigrants.

Mohamed Khairullah signed an executive order on Friday that made the borough of 5,865 a “sanctuary city,” NJ.com reported.

“No department, committee, agency, commission, officer or employee of the Borough of Prospect Park shall use any Borough funds or resources to assist in the enforcement of Federal Immigration Law,” the order read, in part.

“It is important to me as a person who came to the U.S as an immigrant, that we uphold our laws and values,” the mayor, who came to the United States in 1991 from his home city of Aleppo, which has become the epicenter of the Syrian civil war, said according to NJ.com “The U.S is the land of opportunity and dreams for many people all over the world.”

President Trump’s threat to cut off funding to sanctuary cities didn’t faze Khairullah because it doesn’t affect his city, he said.

“We are in a unique position that we don’t rely on federal funding,” he said. “Even if we were in that position, we would try to figure something out.”
