‘I happen to enjoy cooking and baking’: NJ politician’s meme ticks off a ton of women; wife makes it worse

A New Jersey politician was forced to defend himself against angry citizens because he shared, what they deemed to be, a sexist joke on social media.

In response to the Women’s March that took place the day after President Trump’s inauguration, Republican Atlantic County Freeholder John Carman posted a meme that read “Will this women’s protest be over in time for them to cook dinner?”

(The position of “freeholder” only exists in New Jersey. In most other counties in America that title is county commissioners or executives).

Not surprisingly, his political opponents didn’t have a sense of humor about it and they told him about it at a Tuesday freeholder’s meeting.

But Carman fired back.

“I grant you that I made a bad choice. It was in bad taste, the joke I posted,” he told the crowd, according to the Press of Atlantic City. “But it was just that. It was a joke … nothing serious about it, and it doesn’t reflect my sentiments.”

He said he realized how strong the women in his family were, namely his wife and daughter, when they weren’t offended by it.

That comment caused the majority of the women in the room to walk out of the meeting.

His wife came to his defense.

“I worked for many years. I just happen to enjoy cooking and baking and doing yard work and supporting my husband in whatever he may want to get involved with.” Joann Carman said, according to LawNewz. “I do not do Facebook. I do not do social media and I will speak because I am totally offended. I don’t even do computers.”
