Sen. Tim Scott believes it’s time for Rep. John Lewis and President-elect Donald Trump to come together for the benefit of America.
The South Carolina Republican senator made it known that he admires Lewis’ contribution to the Civil Rights movement but also said his comments on Trump deriding him as “not legitimate” were incorrect.
“Two things are completely clear,” Scott told Fox News. “Number one: John Lewis is by any question not only a civil rights hero but an American hero. And number two: Donald Trump is the legitimate president of the United States and will be sworn into office on Friday.”
Bikers for Trump will form ‘wall of meat’ so rioters don’t ruin the inauguration: Bring it, snowflakes!
Trump fired back at Lewis on Twitter where he called the Georgia rep. “all talk.”
Scott said the back and forth “verbal Russian roulette” comments by both men are not helpful to unify the nation.
“I think how we respond to criticism is very important, however. I think, no doubt, I disagree with what (Lewis) said. I think he should be present at the inauguration,” Scott said. “But at the end of the day, I’ve had my own experience with Twitter this past week, with lots and lots of criticism … What I realized is what people say about me says more about them than about me. How I respond says a lot about me and where I want to take this country.”
Scott’s experience with Twitter was likely a social media user who called him, and former Jeff Sessions aide William Smith, as the racist term “house n-word” and Scott had an epic response.
