You have to give it to Donald Trump, the man sure knows how to whip the nation into a frenzy.
…a trait he shares with the late Andrew Breitbart, who also went up against civil rights icon John Lewis.
President-elect Trump drew the ire of not only Democrats, but even a few Republicans when he squared up with Rep. John Lewis, after the Georgia Democrat said he doesn’t see Trump as a “legitimate president“ and that he was only elected because of a conspiracy involving Russia.
And while it may be understandable that Trump would want to hit back after a slight like that, it’s hard to win when going up against a civil rights icon. Even if it has been more than 50 years since he marched alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Not one to give up the fight, after slamming Lewis on Twitter, saying he’s “all talk, no action” and would be better served to focus more on his district, which Trump said is in “horrible shape,” the president-elect came back with an appeal for Lewis to assist him in dealing with crime infested inner-cities:

Trump’s engagement resulting in a number of Democrats deciding they will not attend Friday’s inauguration — assuming they were going to attend in the first place.
Leading the charge was Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., who said he will stand with Lewis in skipping the ceremonies. Fox News shared a meme on Twitter of others Democrats who jumped on board the boycott:

Other Democrats saying they plan to skip the inauguration include Reps. Barbara Lee of California and Luis Gutierrez of Illinois, according to Fox News.
But the indignation was not limited to just one side of the aisle, with Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., a frequent critic of Trump’s, responded to the president-elect’s tweet asking Lewis to work with him.

Sen. Ben Sasse, the junior Republican senator from the state of Nebraska, also took to Twitter to weigh in.

If it’s any consolation, Trump is in good company in going up against Congressman Lewis.
During the infamous tea party “spitting incident” in 2010 that never happened, Lewis claimed he and other members of the Congressional Black Caucus were called the “n-word.” Andrew Breitbart, an icon in his own right, would later accuse Lewis of fabricating the claim and offered $100,000 to anyone who could produce a video of the incident — even though thousands of people were on hand, no video ever surfaced.
“They didn’t expect someone would challenge them on this,” Breitbart told the Washington Post.
“What idiot would challenge John Lewis,” a civil rights movement icon? “Well, I’m that idiot.”
