Leave it to a Marine to get the job done.
U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, back in town for the start of the 115th Congress, opted to improvise, adapt and overcome potential obstacles standing in his way to removing an offensive painting depicting police as pigs that was on display at the U.S. Capitol complex.
The California Republican, an Iraq War veteran active in the Marine Corps Reserve, simply took matters into his own hands.
To the dismay of many in law enforcement, the painting was on display near a Capitol Police screening checkpoint that lawmakers pass each day. It was part of an annual art competition, being awarded first place by the office of Rep. Lacy Clay, D-Mo.
“I was angry,” Hunter told Fox News. “I’ve seen the press [reporting] on this for about a week or so. … I’m in the Marine Corps. If you want it done, just call us.”
Proving his boss is as petty as ever, a spokesperson for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi threatened that Hunter would regret the decision, The Hill reported.
“Congressman Hunter will soon realize that he’s fallen down more than one rabbit hole,” spokesperson Drew Hammill said, referencing a report that the lawmaker used taxpayer funds to pay for his pet rabbit’s airfare.
Speaker Paul Ryan played dumb when asked about the painting on Thursday, saying he wasn’t familiar with the controversial artwork.
A quick scan of social media showed Hunter had plenty of support… and thanks from law enforcement.
