Dick Clark Productions responded Sunday to claims that it sabotaged Mariah Carey’s disastrous New Year’s Eve performance, calling the accusations “absurd.”
The production company released a statement after TMZ reported that Carey’s camp said the recording artist’s embarrassing outing was the result of “sabotage” from Dick Clark Productions “so they could get Mariah drama” and score bigger TV ratings, Fox News reported.

“As the premier producer of live television events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and long-standing relationships with artists,” Dick Clark Productions said in the statement. “To suggest that [DCP], as producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd.”
The statement praised Carey’s talents as an artist.
“We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry,” it said.
Carey’s performance minutes before the famed ball dropped in Times Square was an epic disaster, as she had a meltdown in front of a live audience of millions on ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”
The artist experienced an audio track malfunction and it quickly became apparent that Carey was lip-syncing, not that the diva seemed to care all that much.
But after seeing the fallout from the performance, Carey’s team took to blaming Dick Clark Productions, saying they repeatedly complained about her earpiece not working and claiming she was left to flounder for ratings.
