100-foot tree falls on a wedding party taking photos, kills one

A wedding party became a horror show on Friday when a 100-foot tree fell killing one and causing injuries to others.

The group of revelers gathered beneath the eucalyptus in Whittier’s Penn Park when the tree fell and trapped the people below, KTLA 5 reported.

Guests at a nearby party ran to help and six people had to be cut out by firefighters with chainsaws while others freed themselves.

One victim who has only been described as “older,” died en route to the hospital while a four-year-old girl is in critical condition with head trauma, according to KTLA 5.

“We just heard something crack, like, really hard, and people were yelling,” witness Anahi Vazquez, who was taking photos with her family nearby, said.

One of the witnesses narrowly averted disaster himself when he and his group, who were attending a quinceañera, left the tree and moved to get better lighting right before it fell.

“We walk away and five minutes later this thing collapses on a whole wedding party,” Gilbert Duran said in a video posted to Facebook.

“I just seen a bunch of kids, little kids,” he continued, “they were running for their life and this thing just fell on top of them. I watched them go flat.”
