IBM announces intent to hire another 25,000 US workers ahead of Trump meeting with tech bosses

Call it what you want but American workers keep winning and winning and winning even before the president-elect has taken the office.

Beloved actor Alan Thicke died and this actress made it about Donald Trump – apology expected!

The most recent win came when IBM announced on Tuesday, a day before meeting with Donald Trump, that it will hire 25,000 more workers in the United States over the next four years, the company’s CEO Ginni Rometty wrote in an op-ed for USA Today.

“At IBM alone, we have thousands of open positions at any given moment, and we intend to hire about 25,000 professionals in the next four years in the United States, 6,000 of those in 2017,” she wrote. “IBM will also invest $1 billion in training and development of our U.S. employees in the next four years.”

Many of the jobs, which she called “new collar,” won’t require traditional four-year degrees, Rometty noted.

“In fact, at a number of IBM’s locations spread across the United States, as many as one-third of employees don’t have a four-year degree,” she said. “What matters most is that these employees – with jobs such as cloud computing technicians and services delivery specialists – have relevant skills, often obtained through vocational training.”

The Wednesday meeting will include Rometty and members of the tech sector such as Tesla and SpaceX”s Elon Musk, Tim Cook of Apple, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Sheryl Sandberg from Facebook and Larry Page and Eric E. Schmidt from Google’s parent company Alphabet.

The meeting follows Trump’s get together on Tuesday with Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Romney, Harry Reid trade ugly blows after Mitt gets passed over for ‘State’ gig

It is likely to be an uncomfortable meeting as Silicon Valley overwhelmingly backed Hillary Clinton for president.

But if Trump’s meeting with Mitt Romney and Carly Fiorina are any indication, the next president is good at mending fences.
