Thank you Newt! Congress is about to use THIS little-used ‘Contract With America’ tool to GUT Obama regs

Republicans are going to have the ability to slash and burn a good portion of President Obama’s regulations and they have Newt Gingrich to thank for it.

In the Contract With America, crafted 20 years ago by the Speaker of the House, there’s a provision known as the Congressional Review Act.

The only time this can be successfully used is when one party controls both houses of Congress and the White House at the same time. An era that begins on Jan. 20, when Donald Trump takes the oath of office.

It has only been used by the GOP one time, back in 2001, on a workplace safety rule. But now Republicans have their sights set higher, the Boston Globe reported.

“We plan to robustly use the Congressional Review Act to reverse the midnight regulations of Barack Obama,” Sen John Barrasso, R-Wyo., told the Globe. “His legacy lost. The American people said, ‘No, we don’t want that. We want to change direction.’ ”

Gingrich is happy the regulation is going to be used.

“We’ve gone through a period where unelected bureaucrats have arrogated a level of dictatorial power that can ruin lives, close companies, and totally disrupt local governments with no recourse,” Gingrich, a Trump confidant, told the Globe. “And to reassert the elected officials is, I think, a good thing.”

Democrats plan on making the deregulation as tough on Republicans as they can.

“This tactic is really unconscionable, especially for a president who had a populist message about standing up for people against the Washington swamp,” Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal said.

But considering their lack of power in any branch of government there isn’t much, if anything, they can do.
