Pointing to the “rhetoric of this campaign season,” a group of Muslim New York City police officers is asking to meet with President-elect Donald Trump.
Included in the group is Officer Aml Elsokary, an alleged victim of a hate crime when a man referred to the hijab-wearing officer as a member of ISIS and threatened to cut her throat before telling her to go back to her country, according to Yahoo News.
In a letter to Trump, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams asked him to meet with Elsokary and other members of the NYPD Muslim Officers Society.

Citing a claim by the NYPD’s claim that there has been “a 115 percent spike in bias-based attacks since Election Day,” Adams appealed to Trump’s “respect for the law enforcement community” in requesting the meeting.
“I hope that you will accept my request to meet with Officer Aml Elsokary, as well as several of her colleagues from the NYPD Muslim Officers Society.”
Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks told Yahoo News that she believed that Trump had received Adams’ letter but was unsure if the meeting would be scheduled.
“I just don’t have an update on the status of this,” Hicks said Friday.
