NBC’s Chuck Todd attempted to bully President-elect Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff Reince Priebus into admitting the Russians helped Trump win the presidency.
Priebus pushed back against the New York Times story that claimed Russian hackers had infiltrated the computers of the Republican National Committee but didn’t out the information they uncovered because they wanted to help Trump.
The incoming Chief of Staff explained that the FBI investigated the RNC’s network after the DNC was hacked and that the FBI assured them that they weren’t hacked, he told Todd on Sunday during an interview on NBC’s “Meet The Press.”
An agitated Todd yelled over Priebus and asked him if he denies that anyone that could be in any way affiliated with the RNC was hacked.
“I don’t know why you are so hot about this,” Priebus said. “The fact of the matter is, the RNC was not hacked.”
Todd continued to try to talk over Priebus and look for any way the RNC could have been helped by Russia, including if anyone even remotely affiliated with the RNC could have been hacked by Russian operatives, but Priebus wasn’t having it.
“The article didn’t say, ’employee’ … No, wait a second, Chuck,” Priebus exclaimed.
“The article said, ‘The RNC was hacked.’ So don’t be defensive with me that … ,” Todd interrupted again.
“Let me ask you, though, about the CIA’s assessment,” a combative Todd said. “I understand you want a specific denial about the RNC. The CIA has made this assessment: that Donald Trump has so ignored the assessment. Do you not believe Russia was involved? Do you not believe anything that Russia was attempting to infiltrate the U.S. election system in any way, shape or form?”
“Number one, you don’t have a single source,” Priebus shot back. “I’ve given you a source specifically, me, who runs the RNC, to say that the RNC. was not hacked. You tell me who the specific source on the other side of this that says the RNC was hacked.”
