CNN’s Alisyn Camerota suggests American women wear hijabs to show ‘solidarity’ with Muslims

CNN’s New Day ran a segment Tuesday entitled “Fearful Muslim Women Take Steps To Be Safe,” during which Muslim women expressed fear of persecution and negative perception from wearing their traditional hijab in public, particular after pictures of San Bernardino co-terrorist Tashfeen Malik wearing such a headscarf emerged last year.

Although many of these “hate crimes” are very likely fake, one woman describes someone rolling down their window and spitting at her on the sidewalk, apparently in response to her wearing the hijab. At this point, she decided to “take it off for a while” and only wear it at home or at her place of worship.

Many of the women are responding by taking self-defense classes, which is always a good thing.

However, co-host Alisyn Camerota responded to the segment by suggesting a ‘solidarity-type’ movement whereby American women actually don the hijab in order to make Muslims feel “safe.”

“Maybe there’ll be a movement where people wear the headscarf in solidarity,” Camerota said, with a straight face. “You know, even if you’re not Muslim. Maybe it’s the way people shave their heads, you know, sometimes in solidarity with people who are going through something. Maybe you’ll see a wave of the opposite happening.”

Yeah, and pigs can fly too. Let’s just say the Twitterverse was not impressed…
