‘Couldn’t even memorize lines!’ Feud between Trump and ‘overrated’ Hamilton cast gets personal

A Twitter battle of sorts broke out Saturday between President-elect Donald Trump and the cast of the hit musical “Hamilton,” with a deleted tweet drawing as much attention as any other.

The brouhaha began when Vice President-elect Mike Pence took in the hottest show on Broadway Friday and the cast opted to lecture him about being inclusive after curtain call. Actor Brandon Dixon, who has the role of Aaron Burr, read a statement while the cast stood around him in support.

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda made it clear that he supported the cast, applauding them later than night on Twitter:

Trump took to social media Saturday morning to say the cast was “rude” and their actions equated to “harassment,” and called on them to apologize to Pence.

This prompted Dixon to respond by attempting to correct the President-elect:

The tweet, deleted moments after being posted, read: “Very rude and insulting of Hamilton cast member to treat our great future V.P. Mike Pence to a theater lecture. Couldn’t even memorize lines!”

Not that Trump had second thoughts about criticizing the Broadway production, as he came back early Sunday morning to say the show was “overrated” and again call for an apology:

In the end, given Miranda’s ties with President Barack Obama, the entire incident was as predictable as it was surprising:
