CNN host Jake Tapper pulled no punches in an interview with Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, asking him if he agreed that it’s only because of Clinton’s “horrible decision to set up her private email server” that the campaign is once again beset with dealing with the scandal.
Appearing on “State of the Union,” Podesta was looking to turn the tables on FBI Director James Comey, saying the director should have learned more about the new emails found that were related to Clinton’s private server before going public Friday with the information.
“He might have taken the first step of actually having looked at them before he did this in the middle of a presidential campaign, so close to the voting,” Podesta said.
Podesta called Comey’s handling of the matter “inappropriate” and said he needs to release more details about the new emails.
But Tapper was quick to remind Podesta of how complimentary the campaign has been of Comey — prior to Friday’s bombshell announcement.
.@timkaine called FBI Director Comey a "wonderful … tough … career public servant" — the Clinton campaign is now slamming his actions.

Podesta did not try to deny that the whole matter was Clinton’s fault, as suggested by Tapper.
“I think she has apologized for setting up a private email server, she said it was a mistake,” he explained. “I think she obviously would like to take that decision back, but she’s learned from it.”
Podesta dismissed the controversy swirling around reports that the new emails were found on a laptop belonging to top lieutenant Huma Abedin’s estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, saying it was little more than “speculation.”
“I think it’s clear that [Abedin] complied to the best of her abilities, turned everything over that she had in her possession,” he said in her defense. “I don’t know anything more than the speculation that is running wild in the press now what this is about.”
When Tapper pressed on whether Abedin has been asked about what might be on the computer, Podesta said, “We don’t know what computer Mr. Comey is talking about.”
