It doesn’t get much lower than what Hillary Clinton’s campaign tried to do as Hurricane Matthew inched toward the Florida coast threatening to do unimaginable damage.
Million of Floridians eyes were set to be tuned in to The Weather Channel as the powerful storm approached and Hillary Clinton wanted to take full advantage of it — by airing campaign ads.
The plan was so distasteful, that Eric Trump, son of the Republican presidential nominee, called it “evil” and “sick.” Things only got worse when the public got news of it, and the Clinton campaign was shamed into cancelling the ad buy, The Hill reported.
“We have requested that stations in Florida delay any of those ads on the Weather Channel until after the storm passes,” Jesse Ferguson, a spokesman for the Clinton campaign, said in a statement.
The campaign planned to spend to $63,000 on campaign ads on the Weather Channel that were to start on Thursday, according to Politco, who cited a source that monitors ad buys.
“I’m a guy who, maybe in a certain crazy way, believes in karma,” Eric Trump said in an interview with Ohio radio host Bob Frantz. “There’s something pretty evil and sick about that if you ask me.”
“This is typical politicians for you,” he added.
The Clinton campaign contended that it has been running ads on The Weather Channel all year but it’s tough not to notice the increased effort for the Weather Channel ahead of a storm.
Social media, including Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus was not happy with her.
