U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz wasted no time highlighting the failings of President Barack Obama‘s remarks before the United Nations on Tuesday, where the president called for LESS freedom and to effectively abandon the Constitution in favor of “binding ourselves to international rules.”
The Texas Republican posted a statement on Facebook that burned Obama’s speech to a crisp.
“At the United Nations today, President Obama took to the podium to once again blame the United States for the woes of the world,” Cruz said.
“He suggested our country is just one of many that need to get beyond the old divisions of nationality,” Cruz wrote. “He chided those who would limit the inflow of refugees from nations infiltrated by Islamic terrorists as ignorant bigots, predicted climate change would destroy countries and cause mass conflicts, and referred to Israel as an occupying power.”
Cruz then offered his take on the message that could have delivered.
“Mr. Obama would have done much better to use this opportunity to advance an American agenda, not a global one, and praise our nation as a model of liberty and tolerance.”
He went on to say the president should have denounced the actions of “oppressive regimes” from Russia and China, and to stand with our ally Israel.
“Unfortunately, President Obama chose to deliver a lecture on the need to abdicate our sovereignty in the interests of abstract international norms,” Cruz concluded. “Ironically, that is the worst thing America could do for the world, which needs strong leadership to promote peace, not capitulation to an unelected, authoritarian collective.”
Richard Grenel, the longest-serving U.S. spokesman at the U.N., advising four different U.S. Ambassadors, offered a running commentary on Twitter of Obama’s speech.
