93-year-old victim of a ‘cleavage snatch’ changes hiding place; you’ll never believe where she’s keeping cash now

The elderly wheelchair bound Dominican Republic native who was brazenly robbed of all her money at an East Harlem clothing store after having cashed her monthly pension check has come up with a new place to keep her cash.

When she found that even keeping it in her bra wasn’t safe enough, Maria Vasquez, 93, has now settled on an even more secure — and private — place to keep her cash” a zippered pocket on the front of her panties.

“I’m going to start doing it,” she told The New York Post Saturday.

“It has a pocket with a zipper,” she explained. “It is safer there, and no one can get it.”

After media outlets released surveillance footage of the young thief nonchalantly reaching into Vasquez’s cleavage and lifting an envelope containing $600 in cash, the perp was soon captured and identified as Broyoan Lopez, 26.

The Post reported:

Lopez is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail set Friday night in Manhattan Criminal Court.

Vasquez’s new “bank” will make withdrawals a little less convenient, she conceded. Her home health attendant will have to block her from view anytime she needs to retrieve some cash on the go.

“The home attendant stands in front of me so nobody will see me,” she said, the result being, “No one can get to it.”

After news sources published Vasquez’s heartbreaking story, donations have been streaming in — $1,600 as of Saturday.

$1,000 of those funds came from Dr. Felix Roque, the mayor of West New York, New Jersey, who presented her with the check Friday and gave her a medical checkup to boot.

“I see all these people. I didn’t know them,” Vasquez said of Roque’s visit. “He said he saw it on television and felt sorry for me. He wanted to help meet me in person. He hugged me and kissed me.”

Josh Cohen, 49, the owner of the clothing where Vasquez was robbed, gave her $600 to replace what was stolen. In addition, neighbors have been giving her all sorts of groceries.

“I feel great,” she told The Post Saturday. “I thank everybody who help me, send me money, send me food. I bless them all.”

Despite her strong religious beliefs, she hopes Lopez remains in jail, “because if he comes back, he will do something to another [old] person who can’t defend themselves,” she said.

“I want God to help him. I cannot pardon him right now,” she added.
