The Department of Justice is taking a look at the actions of Donald Trump’s former campaign manager and social media has some questions.
Namely, will the DOJ handle the investigation the same way it did with Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified emails.
The former head of Trump’s presidential campaign, Paul Manafort, is linked to an investigation by the DOJ and FBI for possible U.S. ties to alleged corruption regarding the former pro-Russian president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, according to CNN.
Manafort resigned as Trump’s campaign manager on Friday amid the speculation of his firm’s activity in Ukraine.
The investigation also includes a public relations firm run by Tony Podesta, who is Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s brother, CNN reported.
The Podesta Group released a statement to announce that it hired a law firm to examine whether it had been lied to about its client’s funding sources.
“The firm has retained Caplin & Drysdale as independent, outside legal counsel to determine if we were misled by the Centre for a Modern Ukraine or any other individuals with regard to the Centre’s potential ties to foreign governments or political parties,” the statement read.
“When the Centre became a client, it certified in writing that ‘none of the activities of the Centre are directly or indirectly supervised, directed, controlled, financed or subsidized in whole or in part by a government of a foreign country or a foreign political party.’ We relied on that certification and advice from counsel in registering and reporting under the Lobbying Disclosure Act rather than the Foreign Agents Registration Act. We will take whatever measures are necessary to address this situation based on Caplin & Drysdale’s review, including possible legal action against the Centre,” it continued.
Many on social media wondered if Manafort would get the same treatment Hillary Clinton did, and if he would be treated the same way as Podesta.
@RosieGray I wonder if they’ll drag their feet like with Hillary….

@RosieGray @benshapiro Sounds to me like they were just extremely careless.

Manafort sucks but interesting how the FBI and DOJ are so quick to ‘look at’ him and not Hillary. https://t.co/KV8uPRNpiW

The justice Dept investigating Manafort? The DOJ would investigate a koolaid stand without a permit before investigating real crimes-Hillary

There is no justice in this country. FBI/DOJ is investigating Manafort’s financial dealings/Ukraine, but not the Clinton Foundation.

DOJ refusing to investigate Clinton, goes after Manafort instead https://t.co/DesiBwusL8
