Former Iranian president not satisfied with Obama’s $400 million ransom and is upping the ante

If you thought American’s were riled up by the U.S. sending $400 million in cash to Iran as American hostages were being released, wait until word spreads that the Persian Gulf nation now wants $2 billion.

Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is asking President Obama to help the Islamic nation get back $2 billion in frozen assets — money set to be paid to the families and victims of the bombing of a Marine Corps barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.

“Although it was expected that during your term in office compensation for the past would have been remedied, or at least any new instance of cruel behavior against the Iranian nation would have been prevented, I am afraid that manifold problems were created from which I am going to raise but a particular one that occurred recently,” Ahmadinejad wrote in the letter.

“On June 9, 2014, a court in American, based on unfounded claims without presenting any reliable documents, issues a sentence based on which about ($2 billion) of the Iranian nation’s assets would be seized unlawfully which is an obvious instance of transgression. This sentence was later upheld by the American judiciary system on April 20, 2016 and consequently those assets were seized, which has raised widespread public protests among the Iranian people nationwide.”

The Supreme Court ruled in April that the money should go to the families and other victims of the 1983 bombing, which was blamed on Iran.

And, Iran is ready to go before the International Court of Justice to appeal the U.S. Supreme Court ruling. The ICJ is seated in The Hague, Netherlands.

Ahmadinejad, who was Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013, is reportedly considering running in next year’s presidential election.

Americans reacted with furor when Obama released $400 million payment, contending the payment was merely to settle a debt that predated Iran’s 1978 Islamic Revolution.
