Wild speculations abounded last week that Republican nominee Donald Trump was being pressured by GOP insiders to drop out of the presidential race and that he even may withdraw on his own.
It was all media fabrications, but it did lead Rush Limbaugh to “suggest” a replacement for the billionaire real estate developer on his Friday radio show.
“If Trump drops out, who would be ideal to take over for Trump? Who would be ideal? How about … ? Just hear me out on this before your knee-jerk reactions. How about Khizr Khan as the replacement Republican nominee for Donald Trump?” Limbaugh asked.
Khizr Khan, of course, is the Muslim-American father of a soldier who was killed in Iraq in 2004, and as such is apparently beyond any sort of criticism, despite the fact that he viciously attacked Trump based on false and absurd premises at the Democratic National Convention. Khan and his wife Ghazala are Pakistanis who immigrated to the United States in 1980.
Because of this, Limbaugh reasoned, Khan is the perfect candidate. He continued:
“I mean, how can Hillary even run against the father of a war hero? How could Hillary run against him? She couldn’t say a word. She couldn’t criticize him. That’s what we’ve learned from Democratic convention. You can’t criticize Khizr Khan!
” … You can’t criticize him! Not even Mrs. Clinton. He’s a Muslim to boot. Double insurance against any criticism whatsoever.”
Limbaugh has been full of tongue-in-cheek lately, recently coining the perfect nickname for Black Lives Matter. The radio host also made news earlier this week with speculation that the emails about to be released by Wikileaks could expose Hillary Clinton’s plan for the Benghazi consulate during her tenure as secretary of state.
