Dems pressure WikiLeaks to hack Trump tax return, but they’re in for a real ‘surprise’

Having seen the extent of the damage done with the release of Democratic National Committee emails, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was asked during an appearance Friday on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” about hacking into Donald Trump’s income tax returns.

His answer was to say: “Well, we’re working on it.”

But that response would soon send the whistle-blowing entity scrambling for cover, as WikiLeaks posted a message from its official Twitter account Saturday morning insisting that Assange was only joking.

To say otherwise, WikiLeaks would be advertising that they’re trying to hack into the Internal Revenue Service, which the U.S. government may not take lightly.

With Assange promising that WikiLeaks has “more material related to the Hillary Clinton campaign,” it’s understandable that the Democratic Party is leery of an “October surprise” like no other.

And while Democrats believe Russia is responsible for hacking into the DNC in an effort to aid Trump in the election, Politico reported that defense and security experts “are urging the Obama administration to take tough action” if it can be proven.

But time is not on their side and this has Democrats like veteran political strategist Craig Varoga sweating it.

“In all likelihood, Russia and Assange are already planning an October surprise to influence our election and otherwise destabilize the Western alliance,” Varoga said, according to Politico.

Democratic operative Jim Manley, a former aide to Senate Minority Leader Harry Reed, can also envision catastrophic results.

“We may be headed into uncharted waters, and this has the potential to spiral out of control,” Manley said.

As for Russia’s involvement, Assange is being coy about it, telling Bill Maher, “Everyone knows the source of what we published. The source is the Democratic Party.”
