Mother of teen suspected of assassinating cops blames Black Lives Matter for encouraging shooting

The mother of a Pennsylvania teenager charged with shooting at police officers last week is blaming the violent Black Lives Matter movement for her son’s actions.

In a statement to the media, Luz Rentas pointed directly at the anti-cop hate group.

“They are in jail for doing what Black Lives Matter wanted them to do: shoot at cops,” Rentas said in the statement, the Associated Press reported. “The truth is that these are two punk kids following the orders of an irresponsible organization and now they’re gonna pay for it.”

Armed with a scoped “sniper rifle,” Marquell Rentas, 17, and his cousin Trenton Nace, 18, tried and failed in an effort to ambush police officers in Columbia Borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, according to Lancaster Online.

Rentas, on the right in the photo above, admitted to opening fire on officers responding to a shots fired call, saying he intended to kill them, the newspaper reported.

The initial call may have been a ruse to lure cops to the area.

“By the grace of God, we are not having a press conference today about multiple homicides, multiple deaths of police officers,” Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman said Saturday.

Rentas and Nace are being charged as adults for attempted homicide of a law-enforcement officer, aggravated assault, assault of a law-enforcement officer and counts of conspiracy to commit each of those crimes.

“We as a society need to take a look at what’s going on in our country,” Stedman said. “There’s a lot of rhetoric demonizing police. It creates greater a chance to have individuals emboldened to take violent actions out on police.”

Rhetoric that originates with Black Lives Matter.
