It would seem Hillary Clinton was not paying attention early on in the Republican primary when Donald Trump described himself as “a counter-puncher” who will respond “pretty strongly” when attacked.
Clinton went after the GOP nominee at a campaign rally Saturday in Pennsylvania for remarks he made about retired four-star Gen. John Allen, who criticized Trump while endorsing Clinton at the Democratic convention last week, The Hill reported.
“He loses his cool at the slightest provocation,” she said. “Just yesterday he went after retired Gen. John Allen who commanded our troops in Afghanistan.”
“Gen. Allen is a distinguished Marine,” Clinton continued. “A hero and a patriot. Donald Trump called him a failed general. Why? Because he does not believe Donald Trump should be commander-in-chief.”
On Friday, Trump said Allen, who served as commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, was “a failed general.”
“He was the general fighting ISIS,” Trump said. “I would say he hasn’t done so well, right? Not so well.”
Trump also hit Allen on Twitter:

Clinton seized on the chance to push her campaign narrative that Trump doesn’t have the temperament to be president — she was also eager to fight Allen’s battles for him.
“Our commander-in-chief shouldn’t insult and deride our generals, retired or otherwise,” she said. “That really should go without saying, but I’m going to respond on behalf of Gen. Allen to those kinds of insults.”
