The same adoring media that couldn’t run interference fast enough for Michelle Obama in 2008 when she made a disparaging remark about America were the first to laud her for her patriotism in her speech this week before the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
To adhere to the established media narrative that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is running on a “dark” vision of America, the first lady contorted herself to offer a contrasting point of view.
“Don’t let anyone ever tell you that this country’s not great, that somehow we need to make it great again,” Obama said. “Because this right now is the greatest country on Earth.”

“Right now” being the operative words… as in right now under the “progressive” reign of her husband, Barack Obama.
But Michelle Obama was not always so optimistic about America, as seen while speaking at a campaign rally in Madison, Wisconsin on February 18, 2008.
“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” she said at the time.
As for the media reaction to Monday’s speech, there was little mention of the contradiction between her 2008 and 2016 comments, according to Media Research Center.
The conservative media watchdog group gave a few examples of how the broadcast and cable networks “heaped hyperbolic praise on the presidential spouse,” as seen here:
The live special coverage on NBC, ABC, and CBS Monday night hailed the speech as “artfully painted” and filled with Obama’s “trademark…grace.”
On CNN, left-wing pundit Van Jones gushed: “…if you weren’t moved by that, go see the doctor….She gave a clinic on how to connect to the American people.”
On Tuesday, MSNBC’s Morning Joe put them all to shame as the hosts and other journalists cheered the address as “One of the best speeches I’ve seen at a convention,” being in the “pantheon” of “great speeches,” and even remarked that “her optimism and her hope reminded me of Ronald Reagan.”
