The Clinton campaign pushed a remarkable claim from “experts” that Russian hackers conspired to release the DNC emails just before the Democratic National Convention in an attempt to favor Donald Trump in the 2016 election.
Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday “it’s been reported on in the press that the hackers that got into the DNC are very likely to be working in coordination with Russia.”
“I don’t think it’s coincidental that these emails were released on the eve of our convention here,” Mook added.
And Team Hillary may find they have a kindred spirit in Charles Krauthammer.
While making it clear he doesn’t know if the claim is true, Krauthammer said Sunday “it’s plausible.”
The nationally syndicated columnist said Russian President Vladimir Putin feels “sort of unrestrained” in meddling in American political elections, a development Krauthammer called “unprecedented.”
“This is an obvious attempt to weaken the Democrats and to help Putin… and to help Trump,” he added. “That was a Freudian slip that I will regret.”
“It tells you that the Kremlin really wants Trump to win, that they see an advantage in that,” Krauthammer continued. “And that’s because the prime objective of the foreign policy of Putin has been to destroy NATO.”
An outspoken critic of Trump, Krauthammer went on to say that with the election of the GOP nominee, Putin “sees that he may have a partner in the White House.”
