Hillary says Benghazi security for consulate was ‘not my ball to carry’

In her first interview with running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., Hillary Clinton claimed she was not responsible for the Benghazi, Libya, security during the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate, which left four Americans dead.

On CBS’ “60 Minutes,” Clinton said that though she was secretary of state at the time of the terrorist attack, security at Benghazi was “not my ball to carry.”

“So when this happened in Benghazi, I immediately stood up an independent committee — distinguished Americans, military and civilian experts,” said Clinton. “They came out and they said, “You know, the ball was dropped — in security. And, you know, some of the decisions that were made, probably should have been rethought.”

“It was not my ball to carry. … Those [security reports] never reached me. Those never came to my attention,”she added.

“This has all been investigated over and over again,” Clinton continued. “But as Tim was just saying, it didn’t get the result that some of the Republicans wanted, so they kept at it. And I feel very sorry that they have politicized it unlike any prior example.”

Clinton claimed in the same interview that she was held to a different standard, to what she called the “Hillary standard.”
