So much for the luck of the Irish.
For the second time in less than a year, U2 front-man Bono found himself in the vicinity of a horrific Islamic terrorist attack.
The Irish rock star owns a home in Eze, France, and was out with friends in nearby Nice when Muslim terrorist Mohamed Bouhlel drove a huge truck into a crowd of people out celebrating Bastille Day, killing 84 people, including ten children.
The New York Daily News reported:
The U2 frontman was dining at the posh La Petite Maison restaurant in Nice as throngs of terrified people poured into side streets near Place Massena while fleeing the besieged Promenade des Anglais, restaurant co-owner Anne-Laure Rubi told the La Parisienne magazine.
Bono — along with celebrity chef Alain Ducasse — took shelter from the popular eatery’s terrace after Mohamed Bouhlel plowed through the promenade with an 18-ton refrigeration truck.
Bono left Le Petite Maison with his hands on his head, the French-language magazine wrote, after waiting a half hour for police to check on the restaurant amid rumors of a now-debunked hostage situation.
The Daily Mail reported that Bono was “rescued by armed officers who led him to the nearby Massena square,” but others said the rock star, whose real name is Paul Hewson, was treated no different despite his fame and a net worth of $600 million.
“It took around half an hour for the police to get us out,” a diner said, according to the Daily Mail. “Like everybody else, Bono had to put his hands on his head, and was told to remain calm.”
Incredibly, Bono and his U2 bandmates were in Paris in November when Islamic extremists attacked the nearby Bataclan Theater, killing 89 people, the British tabloid noted.
