That the media was largely silent was of little consequence to thousands of Christians who made their way to the National Mall in Washington on Saturday with a simple message: #JesusChangesEverything.
“When we pray, God moves,” Together 2016 organizers declared on the website set up for the event.
Together 2016 was held “at a time of intense racial and political polarization and growing secularism,” The Washington Post reported – an era also known as President Barack Obama’s “post-racial America.”

“God break racism!” The Post’s headline screamed though organizers seemed to have a broader mission.
“Together 2016 is the day our generation will meet on the National Mall to come together around Jesus in unified prayer, worship, and a call for catalytic change,” the website said. “We’re coming together with as many people as possible who believe Jesus changes everything.”
Organized by Nick Hall, founder of the nonprofit organization PULSE, a student-led prayer and outreach movement, the scheduled 12-hour event was cut short after 7 hours due to a large number of heat-related illnesses overwhelming emergency medical technicians.
But Hall was not deterred.
“It was never about coming to the Mall. It was always about being sent from the Mall,” the organizer said. “This is about sending a generation out from the Mall, who are saying, ‘God, we wanna go — we wanna give everything for Jesus.’”
Hall shared a post-event message on Facebook recapping the day’s success:
