Update 1:

Three police officers have been confirmed dead and three others are reportedly wounded in what appears to be an ambush style attack in Baton Rouge, Fox News reported.

A suspect was also dead. Two other suspects were at large.

The shooting — which happened just before 9 a.m., less than 1 mile from police headquarters — comes amid spiraling tensions across the city, Louisiana’s capital — and the country — between the black community and police.

Original Story.

As many as seven Baton Rouge, Louisiana police officers have been shot in the same city that has been besieged by protests since Alton Sterling was shot and killed by police.

Three of the officers are confirmed dead, according to Fox News.

Authorities received a call about “suspicious person walking down Airline Highway with an assault rifle,” and when police arrived on the scene the man opened fire on them, a source told CNN.

“The count is three officers dead possibly,” Kip Holden, the mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish told CNN.

“There is still an active scene. They are investigating,” Holden said. “Right now we are trying to get our arms around everything.”

The shooter is believed to have also been shot.

This story is still developing.
