Woman shot in Dallas ambush gives emotional account, calls cops ‘heroes’ for protecting her

The woman who took her children to the Black Lives Matter march Thursday night in Dallas to protest two recent police shootings of black men ending up praising the “hero” cops who stood between her and an assassin.

Shetamia Taylor, 37, was shot in her right calf before throwing herself on one of her four children to shield him from the gunfire from a black man sympathetic to the anti-police movement who would kill five law enforcement officers and wound another seven.

Speaking at a press conference Sunday, Taylor said police asked if she had been hit and an officer then got on top of her to shield both her and her son from the onslaught of bullets, according to the New York Post.

“The officer got on top of me and covered me and my son,” she said. “Another cop [was] at my feet and another [stood] by us and they protected us. I saw another officer get shot in front of me.”

Taylor noted that most of the cops protecting her were white, and said this made her “admiration for police greater.”

“I’m so thankful,” she said of the actions of the cops. “Thank you for being heroes.”

While grateful for their protection, the Dallas mom continued to support the need to protest the shooting of unarmed citizens by police. The Dallas protest was in response to two black men being shot and killed in Louisiana and Minnesota … both men were armed at the time of their death.
