Since Gretchen Carlson sued Fox News chief Roger Ailes for sexual harassment, several prominent women at the network have come forward to disagree with the former employees’ assessment of Ailes, and you can now include Kimberly Guilfoyle on that list.
Joining Greta Van Susteren, Jeanine Pirro and Maria Bartiromo, Guilfoyle spoke with TV Newser about the serious allegations leveled against her boss and said “nobody believed this.”
“Nobody that I’ve spoken to said that this was their experience,” she said, adding later that Fox News is “the best, most professional supportive environment I have ever, without question, worked in.”
A former assistant district attorney, Guilfoyle said her first reaction to the lawsuit was “total disbelief.”
“I’ve known Roger Ailes for 15 years and I’ve been treated with the utmost professionalism and respect,” she told TV Newser. “This is a man who champions women.”
And while Carlson’s case may end up being short circuited, Guilfoyle made it clear that she is not one to gloss over a hostile work environment.
“I am a strong woman. I come from a background as a prosecutor,” she said. “I’ve tried everything from homicides to gang cases to sexual assault cases to child abuse cases. If I see, hear, or experience anything that I feel is inappropriate you bet I’m going to speak up.”
As for Carlson’s actions, Guilfoyle sees retaliation as a possible motive, just as Ailes suggested in his response to her charges.
“This is a tough business and you’re asked to do a job,” she said. “And part of doing that job is to rate and to do well and to perform and at certain points, when people are unable to do the job they’re hired to do, what happens is people are let go.”
“Their contract is not renewed,” Guilfoyle added. “This happens every day in this business and then what you see in certain situations like that is retaliatory and people get upset and disgruntled and take certain measures to express themselves.”
