As he was dying, the gunman who killed five Dallas police officers during a protest last week tried to write a message in his own blood.
Authorities said the killer, Micah Xavier Johnson, wrote several messages on the wall during the tense standoff with police, but the letter “RB” written is his own blood stood out, the Daily Mail reported.
“We’re trying to figure out what those initials mean,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown told CNN.
But the Daily Mail has learned that Johnson might have been trying to write “RBG,” which stands for the red, black and green Pan African flag, a black power symbol.
It was the flag Johnson used as his cover photo on Facebook, according to the Mail.
The Pan-African flag – also known as the UNIA flag, Afro-American flag and Black Liberation Flag – was adopted by the members of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA) at their convention held in Madison Square Garden in New York City on August 13, 1920.
Variations of the flag have since been adopted by dozens of black unity and black liberation organizations and RGB has become the term that embodies today’s Black Power movement.
Another theory as to the meaning of “RB” is that it might have meant “Righteous Blood,” a reference to Matthew 23:35 which reads “Upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth,” according to the Mail.
Detectives are looking through his journal and other belongings to see if they can make sense of the message.
