The secret meeting earlier this week between Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton is getting plenty of attention, deservedly so, but there’s another secret meeting reportedly taking place on Saturday that’s now grabbing headlines.
In an exclusive, The Daily Caller reported that Hillary Clinton is scheduled to meet Saturday with the FBI as the agency nears the end of its investigation into the potential mishandling of classified information on the former secretary of state’s private email server.
A source close to the investigation said the interview may take place at the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s Washington, D.C. home.
Doing the interview over the 4th of July holiday weekend was a likely logistical decision, The Daily Caller reported, and the quiet nature follows an established practice by the FBI of bringing in witnesses in secret to avoid intense media coverage.
Conveniently, Clinton has no campaign events on the schedule over the weekend.
Clinton last commented on an expected interview with the FBI back in May — she is a Democrat, after all — when she said that her legal team had been in contact with the Justice Department but that “we do not have an interview scheduled.”
Clinton’s former chief of staff Cheryl Mills and her deputy chief of staff, Huma Abedin have already been interviewed, as has Bryan Pagliano, the former State Department information technology specialist who set up and managed Clinton’s remote server — he spoke in exchange for an immunity agreement.
It remains to be seen whether all the effort proves to be little more than a charade, as some charge.
