It didn’t take long for “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski to acknowledge a Page Six story about a rumored romance between her and co-host Joe Scarborough.
The New York Post celebrity gossip site reported this week that Scarborough and Brzezinski have been romantically involved for some time and may soon go public with the affair now that Brzezinski and her husband of 23 years have quietly divorced.
“Everybody at 30 Rock knows they are a couple . . . They are constantly together, they arrive and leave events together, even on weekends,” an NBC insider told Page Six. “They are each other’s publicists and finish each other’s sentences. It’s the worst-kept secret in TV.”
The story ran on Wednesday and at the beginning of Thursday’s show, the two had a flirtatious on-air exchange that played on the comment about finishing each other’s sentences.
Page Six reported:
Brzezinski, turning to her co-host toward the beginning of the show, said, “Can I get to the lead stories now?”
“By the way,” Scarborough responded, with a devilish smirk on his face, “there are a lot of lead stories today” — prompting hearty laughter from the MSNBC set.
“I will finish your sentence and start with politics,” Brzezinski said, shifting to discussing Donald Trump.
Scarborough, 53, and Brzezinski, 49, have worked together since 2007 — Scarborough has been divorced since 2013.
Adweek noted that whatever is going on, it seems to be working.
“They were inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame just last month,” the media industry website said. “And for the just-concluded second quarter Morning Joe gave MSNBC its highest viewership ever in the 6-9 a.m. timeslot.”
