Trump loses Republican support in Fox News poll — there are 4 words people are saying about him

Hillary Clinton has expanded her national lead over Donald Trump to six points in the latest Fox News poll.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee has lost ground among his base of conservative and moderate Republican support, losing eight points with GOP voters since May.

In Fox News’ previous poll, Trump had the support of 82 percent of the Republican constituency but that number has fallen to 74 percent as of late.

Meanwhile 83 percent of Democrats support Clinton for president.

“The results here aren’t disastrous for Trump given the troubles he’s encountered the past few weeks,” Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who along with Democratic pollster Chris Anderson, conducts Fox News’ polling, said.

“He’s within striking distance,” Shaw said. “But he absolutely must combat the growing perception that he is temperamentally unsuited and intellectually unprepared to be president.”

When asked how they would describe the candidates, six out of 10 voters polled used the word “patriotic” for both Trump and Clinton.

But there were some other words, that were not nearly as flattering, used to describe them as well.

89 percent of those surveyed said the words “hot-headed” described Trump’s temperament, while 83 percent said “obnoxious” fit him.

Clinton’s descriptions voters used to describe her were far worse, though.

58 percent of respondents described her as “corrupt” and a record low of 30 percent found her to be “honest and trustworthy.”

Not all is bad news for Trump.

Despite losing ground with traditional GOP voters, Trump has a 66-18 percent edge with evangelical voters, a 52-30 percent among gun owners and leads 39-31 percent with coveted independents.

“While our polling shows a clear positive trend for Clinton, her six-point lead is notably small considering voters almost universally think Trump is hot-headed and obnoxious, and most think he’s inexperienced,” Anderson said.

“This race is nowhere close to breaking open, despite some huge perceived deficiencies in Trump’s character.” he said.
