The list of potential running mates for Donald Trump is surprisingly low according to his former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.
In his first appearance on CNN since landing an exclusive job with the network as a political commentator, he told Erin Burnett “no more than four individuals” are on Trump’s shortlist to be vice president.
“These are the absolute very best,” he said. “People that everyone will know.”
“They’re household names. They’re people that he has said will help him achieve his legislative agenda, people who are going to be very, very happy when he final makes the determination of which one of those he’s going to select.”
Lewandowski also dispelled rumors that the number of people willing to be Trump’s VP was shrinking.
“Every person that he has talked to, every person that he has had an interest in talking to has reaffirmed with 100 percent certainty that they would be absolutely welcome on the ticket,” he said. “They want to do this,” he said. “These people would be ready to go and are excited about the prospect of being on the ticket with Mr. Trump.”
Last week Trump gave a clue as to who those picks might be at a rally in Tampa where he asked the crowd who he should pick and mentioned former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Sen. Jeff Sessions.
