GOP nominee Donald Trump is standing by his position to bar individuals on the country’s ‘terror watch list’ from being able to obtain guns, despite some objections from fellow Republicans.

In an interview with ABC News, Trump said terrorists or those suspected of terrorism should never be able to buy guns in the country.

“We have to make sure that people that are terrorists or have even an inclination toward terrorism cannot buy weapons, guns,” Trump said.

When asked if his position was to ban guns for anyone on the ‘terror watch list,’ Trump said “I’d like to see that, and I’d like to say it. And it’s simpler. It’s just simpler.”

At the same time, Trump has remained staunchly in favor of Second Amendment gun rights, saying that if gun violence victims had guns of their own, they would be able to defend themselves and others.

“I can make the case that if there were guns in that room other than [the shooter’s] fewer people would have died, fewer people would have been so horribly injured,” Trump said back in October of 2015 when speaking about a mass shooting in Oregon.

Trump announced a week ago that he would be meeting with the National Rifle Association (NRA) to discuss a ban on ‘terror watch list’ suspects from obtaining guns, a plan that left many republicans confused.
