While it’s not clear if he was auditioning for his next gig, President Barack Obama joined Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” to give an encore presentation of “slow-jamming the news” … and have a little fun at Donald Trump‘s expense.
The “Preezy of the United Steezy,” as Fallon called Obama in their 2012 performance, was quick to propagandize on issues central to his administration, to include the myth of climate change, same-sex marriage and Obamacare — the president even claimed that he was able to “stimulate the economy and get our country back on track.”
But Obama was clear about what’s foremost on his mind.
“There will be no third term,” he said. “I can’t stay forever. Besides, daddy’s got a Hawaiian vacation booked in about 223 days, but who’s counting!”
Fallon asked Obama if he thought the Republicans were happy with their choice of Trump as the party’s nominee.
“We are,” the Democrat president replied.
And while the audience ate it up, Real Clear Politics show Trump up in several polls recently, which is no laughing matter for Democrats.
Even more troubling, surveys consistently show that folks have serious trust issues with the presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
“The truth is, I am actually worried about the Republican Party,” Obama told Fallon, before saying “you want the Republican nominee to be somebody who could do the job if they win.”
Obama then engaged in an uninterrupted rant about “things that have happened” in the opposition party over the past seven years and how this “is not actually good for the country as a whole.” He said he hoped to see “some corrective action” to get the GOP “back to being a center right party.”
Never mind that the Democratic nominee is under investigation by the FBI and it’s questionable whether her campaign survives the probe… or can win the election, if she does.
Naturally, the “Tonight Show” love affair with Obama concluded with the prerequisite mic drop:
