After Hillary Clinton’s victory in the New Jersey Democratic primary Tuesday night, she joined Donald Trump as a presumptive nominee in the U.S. 2016 presidential race.

And, though socialist candidate Bernie Sanders has vowed to “fight on” until the convention, both Clinton and Trump made direct appeals to his supporters.

“Whether you supported me or Sen. Sanders or one of the Republicans, we need to keep working toward a better, fairer, stronger America,” Clinton told her supporters in her victory speech Tuesday night.

“I want to congratulate Sen. Sanders for the extraordinary campaign he has run. He has spent his long career in public service fighting for progressive causes and principles and he’s excited millions of voters, especially young people,” she said. “Let there be no mistake: Sen. Sanders, his campaign and the vigorous debate that we’ve had about how to raise income, reduce inequality, increase upward mobility, have been very good for the Democratic Party and for America.”

Trump took another approach.

“To all of those Bernie Sanders supporters who have been left out in the cold by a rigged system of superdelegates we welcome you with open arms,” he said in his victory speech.

“And by the way, the terrible trade deals that Bernie was so vehemently against — and he’s right on that — will be taken care of, far better than anyone ever thought possible,” he said.

Who do you think had the more convincing appeal?
