Like a schoolgirl waiting for her favorite boy to ask her to prom, President Obama has Hillary Clinton hanging on.
After the Associated Press declared Monday that Clinton had reached the requisite delegates needed to secure the Democrat presidential nomination the president’s spokesman Josh Earnest said Obama was not yet prepared to endorse her.
“I know that there were a number of calculations that were conducted by media organizations throughout the day yesterday, those calculations included an updated survey of superdelegates across the country and some media organizations have concluded that Secretary Clinton now has achieved a majority of delegates who will be voting at the Democratic convention,” Earnest told reporters at a press briefing on Tuesday. “However, at this point, there is at least one superdelegate, the one who works in the Oval Office who is not prepared to make a public declaration about his endorsement at this point but stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated.”
In fact Obama called both Clinton and Bernie Sanders on Tuesday night after their respective primary victories and scheduled a meeting for Thursday with the Vermont senator to discuss “significant issues at stake in this election,” the Boston Globe reported.
