In response to forty-three Republicans joining with the Democratic Party in support of President Barack Obama’s pro-transgender agenda, a GOP lawmaker reportedly opened a policy meeting on Thursday with a Bible passage condemning homosexuality.

While the energy bill it was attached to would be voted down, freshman Rep. Rick Allen, R-Ga., suggested the Republicans who joined Democrats to pass a transgender discrimination amendment had effectively sinned by defying Christian tenets, The Hill reported.

The online political site did not cite the passage Allen read, but some of his more progressive colleagues were said to be unhappy with it.

“It was f—ing ridiculous,” said one GOP lawmaker said, according to The Hill.

A Republican leadership aide, also unidentified, reportedly agreed, saying, “A lot of members were clearly uncomfortable and upset.”

One Republican willing to put his name behind his words accused Democrats of playing political games by supporting the amendment while voting against the energy bill it was attached to.

“This is not about LGBT rights,” insisted Rep. Mick Mulvaney. “It’s about shipwrecking the appropriations process.”
