Reince Priebus told Chris Wallace exactly how hit pieces on Donald Trump will ‘move the dial’

Make no mistake, the mainstream media is determined to take down Donald Trump. Both the New York Times and the Washington Post have recently published hit pieces based on Trump’s, shall we say, less than Puritanical activities two or three decades ago in an attempt to smear the Republican presumptive nominee.

So, is it working with the American people? RNC chairman Reince Priebus says it’s not, and he’s got history on his side.

In an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, Priebus insists voters “just don’t care” about Trump’s past and are much more concerned about who is going to “bring an earthquake to Washington” than whether or not Trump pretended to be his own publicist 25 years ago. According to Preibus, these stories about Trump’s past have absolutely “no consequence” to issues facing Americans today.

“I don’t think Donald Trump and his personal life are what people are looking at. The bigger question is: Between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, who’s going to have a more efficient government? Who is going to blow up the system. People are angry, and I think Donald Trump is the one to do it.”

On the recent allegations, Priebus said, “I get that this stuff is interesting, but it doesn’t move the dial one notch.”

Trump has, after all, managed to overcome a litany of bad press and even major gaffes on his way to racking up more votes than any other Republican primary candidate in history. If those things haven’t really hurt him in the eyes of the general public, why should these new “revelations” be any different?

On the tax return issue, Priebus did admit Mitt Romney “paid a dear price” for releasing his tax returns so late in 2012, a move that was clearly not good for Republicans. According to Priebus, “that’s a question for Donald Trump,” and the candidate will have to live with the consequences. However, Priebus acknowledged that most things haven’t affected Trump in the same way it would affect another candidate.
