The Supreme Court has decided to allow an appeals court decision, that found Michigan police violated a Christian group’s civil rights, to remain in place.
The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in Dec. 2015 that the group, who marched around at a Muslim festival with a pig’s head on a pole warning the revelers that they would “burn in Hell,” was within its protected free speech rights, the Associated Press reported.
Moreover, appellate court ruled that the Wayne County sheriff’s deputies who removed them violated the First Amendment rights of the group, called Bible Believers.
Police removed the Christian group to bring calm as the evangelists were being pelted with rocks and other debris, according to the Detroit Free Press.
By not taking the case the court leaves in place the lower court ruling.
