Facebook may be in hot water with conservatives, but that doesn’t mean they want the social network investigated by the federal government.
After it was revealed that Facebook has been allegedly suppressing conservative news from trending on social media, Sen. John Thune, R-Sd thought it would be a good idea to get the government involved.
“Facebook must answer these serious allegations and hold those responsible to account if there has been political bias in the dissemination of trending news,” Thune said in a statement, according to the Washington Examiner. “Any attempt by a neutral and inclusive social media platform to censor or manipulate political discussion is an abuse of trust and inconsistent with the values of an open Internet.”
Thune also sent a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, after stating that the Senate would be probing the allegations about Facebook’s ‘trending topics’ section.
But, now Thune is getting hit hard, not from liberals, but from conservatives on Twitter:Â
The Senate’s commerce and science committee needs to stay the hell away from Facebook, which is a private company. https://t.co/JHn78PTJWm

No, it isn’t the Senate’s job to look into the Facebook “scandal”
