A West Virginia middle school, fed-up with disciplinary problems, changed its suspension policy.
Huntington East Middle School administrators have developed what it calls “reverse suspensions,” WOWK-TV reported.
The idea being that students who get in trouble for non-violent, non-verbally abusive actions have their parents spend the day with them at school rather than sending them home.

“When we started combining schools we had a lot of kids getting in trouble and getting suspended,” Stephanie Powell, a school parent partner, told WOWK-TV.
Student Justin Young said the policy has already worked for him.
“I was suspended multiple times last year. But this year, not once,” he said.
Principal Frank Barnett said suspensions has been reduced by two-thirds and bad behavior has been cut by more than half.
Stephanie Howell, a parent, thinks the idea is working.
“Who as a parent wants to sit in class? It’s embarrassing,” she said. “It’s a good motivator to not have your parents come and sit with them.”
