The political landscape has changed, but some dinosaurs are having a hard time adjusting.

To “conservative” columnist George Will, Donald Trump is like an occupying force and the Republicans who are warming to him are “quislings,” or collaborators, who render themselves “ineligible to participate in the party’s reconstruction” after, of course, Trump has completely destroyed the Republican party.

Because being “Republican” apparently means wanting endless foreign wars, endless Third World immigration, and trade deals that gut America’s industrial base.

According to Will’s Saturday Washington Post column, any person who agrees to be Trump’s running mate disqualifies themselves simply for believing Trump himself is qualified.

“Were he to be nominated, conservatives would have two tasks. One would be to help him lose 50 states — condign punishment for his comprehensive disdain for conservative essentials, including the manners and grace that should lubricate the nation’s civic life. Second, conservatives can try to save from the anti-Trump undertow as many senators, representatives, governors and state legislators as possible,” Will writes.

If the longtime Trump critic and the man who predicted “peak Trump” well before Trump’s overwhelming victories in New York, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island hadn’t jumped the shark long ago, he certainly has now. Will’s inability to read the political landscape is about as myopic as Hitler’s assessment of Soviet strength before his ill-fated attack on Stalingrad.

What he and others don’t understand is that the Republican party, the party that gave us years of betrayals and eight years of Obama, HAS been destroyed, and what is rising in its place is something far greater and with far more potential for victory, a party that finally puts Americans first.

Even Trump supporters don’t dispute his high negatives, but it’s also hard to deny the fact that he could very well garner the most votes in GOP primary history, which means despite his negatives he also has a tremendous upside that could put states in play that Republicans haven’t sniffed since the Reagan years. Will and other #NeverTrumpers also forget that Trump will be running against someone who also has majority negative numbers. Yet, despite this, he “predicts” Clinton will become the fourth Democrat to receive over 53 percent of the popular vote.

Instead, the columnist’s astonishingly short-sighted strategy consists of limiting Hillary Clinton to one four-year term and rallying around a conservative who rejected Trump this election cycle, someone like Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse.

That’s right, let’s trust Hillary Clinton to make the next 2-4 Supreme Court appointments. Even if Republicans maintain the Senate, does he or anyone else think they have the stomach to fight her?
