A big “shake up” within the Trump campaign gave way to reports that embattled campaign manager Corey Lewandowski had been demoted.

CBS News reported that Paul Manafort, who was hired last week to be the convention manager for Donald Trump, will now serve in Lewandowski’s old role and run the campaign.

Lewandowski’s role has been shrunk to what “amounts to body man and scheduler” while the number of people he oversees has been drastically reduced, according to CBS.

It appeared that the demotion had nothing to do with the controversy surrounding his altercation with former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields and her threats of litigation.

Instead, the change seemed to stem from an appearance Lewandowski made on Fox News that left some in the Trump campaign calling him an “amateur,” POLITICO reported.

“The chairman of the party of Florida, who is an avid and outward supporter of Marco Rubio, gets to appoint 30 of those delegates,” he said during the appearance. “Now, I understand those are the rules but Donald Trump won. … And now, you’ve got a person who is supporting Marco Rubio who gets to appoint 30 of the 99 delegates.”

The statement prompted an angry call to the Trump campaign by Republican Party of Florida Chairman Blaise Ingoglia, according to POLITICO.

POLITICO reported that Ingoglia remained neutral before and after the primary, he doesn’t get to appoint any delegates at all and he gets to suggest 15, not 30, delegates to the Florida’s executive committee.

“Corey goes on national TV to talk about how he didn’t really commit battery on a woman — a terrible topic for the campaign to have out there — and then he makes it even worse by getting his facts wrong and pissing off the chairman in Florida when he didn’t need to,” a campaign insider told POLITICO.

Lewandowski denied the claims he had been demoted.

“We are growing this campaign in order to make sure we have a team that will allow us to compete against Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton in November,” he told The Hill.

“Bringing additional people into the campaign has always been part of the strategy, and my role hasn’t changed at all.”

It is also worth noting that Lewandowski’s Twitter account still says he is Trump campaign manager.
