The McDonald’s of the future has been revealed — and it doesn’t need $15-an-hour minimum wage order-takers.

A new 6,500-square-foot McDonald’s is set to be opened in Missouri this June and among its futuristic features are kiosks where customers can place their order, eliminating the need for the entry-level positions.

Co-owner Chris Habiger told the St. Joseph News-Press that the kiosks will make it easier for customers to build their orders.

“There really are hundreds of different choices to build the burger of your dreams,” Habiger said.

The restaurant won’t eliminate employees altogether; the futuristic McDonald’s will offer table service to couches and armchairs where customers will be seated.

“Once you’ve placed your order, you can find your seat because we’ll bring it out to you,” he said.

But make no mistake: The more entry-level workers battle for a pay increase, the more businesses, like fast-food establishments, will move towards automation.
