Like a bad canker sore Rachel Dolezal is back.
She appeared on the TODAY Show on Tuesday to talk about the past year after she was exposed as a fraud pretending to be black while she was, in fact, born white.
Fortunately for Dolezal, she lives in a time where people can identify as a cross-dressing, rainbow-striped unicorn and the media will demand we take them seriously and refer to them as that which they identify.
The TODAY Show’s Savannah Guthrie had to nod her head when she asked Dolezal, “Do you feel now that you have any regrets about some of the things you’ve said about yourself that have now been revealed to not be true?”
A puzzled Dolezal responded that she didn’t know what Guthrie was talking about.
“I do wish I could have given myself permission to really name, and own the me of me earlier in life. It took me almost 30 years to get there,” Dolezal said. “Certainly, I feel like it’s a complex issue. How do you just sum up a whole life of kind of coming into who you are in a sound bite? Those conversations? I feel like moving forward. I don’t have any regrets about that.”
Actually, it isn’t complex. Dolezal is a white fraudster who managed to get herself into the position of the head of the Spokane, Washington chapter of the NAACP by being a good liar.
Dolezal told Guthrie life has been “challenging” since her scam was outed, but that she is ready to seize new opportunities in 2016. Among them is writing a book on racial identity.
No, that isn’t a joke.
“Race is such a contentious issue because of the painful history of racism. Race didn’t create racism, but racism created race,” she said before adding that she is “just looking forward to getting back into racial and social justice work.”
Social media wasted no time in slamming her.
