Bill Clinton’s ‘almost’ apology for slamming Black Lives Matter

When democrats make rare, bold statements that upset a couple people, you can expect an apology soon.

After former President Bill Clinton called out Black Lives Matter protesters as “defending the people who kill the people whose lives you say matter,” he now seems to be walking back his truthful statement that took the internet by storm, according to the Daily Mail.

“So I did something yesterday in Philadelphia,” said Clinton about his tiff with activists in Erie, Pennsylvania the day before. “I almost want to apologize for it, but I want to use it as an example of the danger threatening our country.”

“Now I like and believe in protests,” Clinton continued. “I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t because I engaged in some when I was a kid. But I never thought I should drown anybody else out. And I confess, maybe it’s just a sign of old age, but it bothers me now when that happens.”

Clinton went off on protesters who were angry about the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 that increased the number of people in jail and the lengths of their time in prison.

“I talked to a lot of African-American groups,” Clinton told Black Lives Matter activists before apologizing. “They thought black lives mattered. They said, ‘Take this bill because our kids are being shot in the streets by gangs.’ We had 13-year-old kids planning their own funerals.”

“Because of that bill, we had a 25-year low in crime, a 33-year low in the murder rate, and listen to this, because of that and the background check law, a 46-year low in the deaths of people of gun violence. And how do you think those lives were, that mattered? Whose lives were saved, that mattered?” he asked.
